Feng Shui is an 8,000 year-old Chinese philosophy about the relationship between humans and their environment. Every item in a space and its placement is thought to either enhance or diminish our well-being. Based on the laws of nature, logic and common sense, we have incorporated feng shui principles into our office.
Teal is one of the official colors of our local university, UNCW or UNC Wilmington. Indeed, teal is a good color choice for a beach community! If you love the ocean, you probably love teal. Teal is also traditionally used in feng shui to symbolize water elements. Water is one of the primary elements, alongside air, earth, metal, and fire that are used in feng shui. Proper feng shui placement of these elements creates positive qi, or energy within a space.
All shades of blue are calming, but the blue-green of teal can be both soothing and playful, depending upon its placement and depth. Deeper shades of blue are more intense, while sky blue can be very calming. In our office, we use teal precisely because of its soothing properties. The calming effect of teal is linked to its association with water.
In our office, we have teal walls and a water feature, to add soothing water energy to our space. You don’t have to be an acupuncturist, however, to create a calm space! Blue décor elements are especially good for rooms like bedrooms, where a restive atmosphere makes the space more pleasant.
