AA Golf Elbow SmallWilmington, NC and the surrounding areas in Brunswick, Pender and New Hanover counties are home to many beautiful and celebrated golf courses providing year-round challenge and enjoyment for dedicated players. While this is benefit for those who love the sport, it puts many at risk for golf elbow.

Because our office is in the Wilmington, NC area, we see golf-related injuries more than the average acupuncture office. Golf elbow is a condition related to inflammation or injury of the muscles around the elbow joint, caused by certain repetitive motions common to the game of golf.

You don’t have to play golf to have golf elbow, either. Tennis players often suffer from a similar injury as a result of overextending their elbow joints. Poor alignment and repetitive movement of the joint are the root causes of pain and swelling.

Think you are suffering from golf elbow?  Common symptoms of golf elbow might include:

  • Pain and sensitivity around the elbow joint
  • Pain when shaking hands
  • Pain when using your wrist to grip items

Are these symptoms familiar to you? Golf elbow and other joint injuries require careful treatment, but acupuncture for golf elbow may be able to address some of the inflammation characteristic of this condition. With acupuncture, our aim is to increase the flow of Qi, or energy and blood, within the body. Increased Qi correlates with better circulation and may help decrease swelling and pain.  In traditional Chinese medicine, balancing the flow of Qi throughout the body helps to maintain health and wellness.

In some cases, we recommend complementary treatments to our clients, such as gentle massage, herbal supplements, and topical herbal applications to decrease swelling and pain.  Acupuncture treatments can also be used safely in combination with Western treatment plans, making them ideal for patients concerned about drug interaction and pain treatment for golf elbow and similar conditions.

Whatever your acupuncture needs, we welcome you to schedule an appointment in our Wilmington, NC office today.
